How to "know" you are going to heaven.

As many of you may have heard, popular Christian musician Jennifer Knapp recently revealed that she is a lesbian on Larry King. As Jennifer Knapp tries to twist scripture to justify her sin, her former pastor tries to rebuke her in love. Here is a major question many of us Christians are asking ourselves,

"If Jennifer died right now in her sin, would she go to heaven?"

I will first explain why this is a tough subject to get a clear answer to, then I will answer the question.

-----------------------

One side of the argument states "Once saved, always saved." That even in Jennifer's sin, she will still go to heaven if she died. That Jesus Christ already paid for her sins, and just because she believes in Him through faith, she will go to heaven.

The other side of the argument states that she would go to hell if she died in her sin. She is falsely representing God and leading others in a continual justification of sin. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 states how homosexuality and every other type of sinful lifestyle will not inherit the kingdom of God, if left not repented. God will pursue up until a certain point then He will let you have what you want.

-----------------------

Hopefully I can shed some light on the subject for those who struggled with the answer, like I have. First of all, I'd like to point out that the problem here is in the question itself.

Matthew 7:16 states how you will know them (one who is saved) by their fruit. The evidence that you are even saved is the fact that you have lasting fruit of the spirit. You know who is a follower of Jesus Christ if they have fruit. The branches without fruit will be cut off from the tree and casted into the fire to be burned.

Philippians 1:6 says "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

This means that if you are a son or daughter or Jesus Christ, hell is impossible for you. If God began a good work, He WILL finish it. God will set aside your own death for the sake of completing the work that He has began. You have the Holy Spirit if you are saved, and God will be relentless in convicting you.

--------------------------
So here's the thing, IF Jennifer Knapp is actually saved, God will NOT allow her to die without allowing her repent and come back home. The prodigal child will always return to the father, it's just a matter of when their mind awakens to reality and they finally hear the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

If Jennifer Knapp died suddenly and did not repent of her lifestyle before death, that is evidence that she was not truly saved from the beginning.
---------------------------

If you are truly saved and God has began a good work in you, He will pursue you until you come back and He completes the work He has started. All the time, every time.

If you are growing in repentance,
If you are broken over sin,
If you fear the Lord,
If you are being changed by God through trials to look more like Christ,
And if you have lasting fruit of the spirit,
Then you should know you are saved.

God's changing all His kids. If you see no evidence for this being true in your life, you are probably not saved.
